AI customs software compared 2026

Note: this overview is published by Athren, which is one of the tools listed. Every statement about another vendor is a quotation or a paraphrase of that vendor’s own website, with the source beside it. Last checked 5 October 2026.

What this overview compares

Which tools prepare customs declarations or tariff classifications with AI, who lodges the declaration in the end, and what does each vendor say about itself? This overview describes eight vendors from Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland and the German customs administration’s app, each in its own words and with the source beside it.

Tools that use AI to prepare the customs declaration of a shipment, to classify the articles of a company, or both, in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland. What matters to a customs broker is what goes in, what comes out and who lodges the declaration in the end: its own declarant in its own software, the vendor as a customs broker, or a partner.

Included are the vendors that appeared on the German, Dutch and English Google result pages for "KI-Zollsoftware", "Zollsoftware mit KI im Vergleich" and "AI douanesoftware" on the reading day, plus Athren as the publisher of this page and the customs administration’s eZOLL app, which sits on the same pages. The order is alphabetical, which is why Athren is first. No vendor paid and none was asked; every statement comes from its own website.

Which tool for whom

  • Your declarant should file in their own software, with no connection and no rollout: Athren. A2
  • Declaration data should flow into the existing customs software: Digicust names connectors to ten customs platforms, Logentic sets the declaration up in the customer’s DMS, CustomsLens brings Dutch customs processes into your own software through an API. D25LO05CL01
  • A vendor should take over customs clearance: Declarium calls itself a customs broker and customs agency; KikoSpace clears Swiss customs processes itself through Zolli. DE09ZO05
  • Article catalogues should be classified: traide, one at a time or in batches, with a justification under GRI 1 to 6. T14T25
  • A Dutch customs agency wants declaration software with DMS: Borderbolt lodges with DMS from inside the software; CustomsLens and Logentic work with the software you already have. BO08CL02LO11
  • A postal or courier consignment up to 150 euros should be declared by the recipient: the customs administration’s eZOLL app, free. EZ03EZ10

Athren

Athren sits at the top because the list is alphabetical, and it is the publisher of this page. It does one job: from the shipment email with the invoice, the packing list and the bill of lading, the import declaration is filled in, header and every line, each value with the document it was read from. A1

For clear invoice lines Athren proposes a code; for unclear ones it writes the question the tariff asks. Your declarant decides every code, downloads the declaration and files it in their own software. Athren files nothing, connects to nothing and runs on Google Cloud in the Netherlands. A2A6

Fits: Customs brokers in Germany and the Netherlands whose day is shipments and who want to connect nothing. A3

Borderbolt

Borderbolt is a registered trademark of CustomsFlows B.V. in Eindhoven and calls itself "Customs Software. Stupidly Simple.": one central place for declarants, forwarders and customs offices, from the DMS declaration through warehouse management to invoicing. BO01BO03BO13BO17

The AI module reads commercial invoices, packing lists, weight notes, B/L and AWB as well as Excel and CSV files and returns a ready declaration proposal; the user checks, approves and lodges it with DMS in one click. At setup Borderbolt connects the customer’s account to Dutch customs. Prices come as a quote; a demo with your own documents is offered. BO06BO07BO08BO10BO14BO15

Fits: Dutch customs agents who want DMS declarations and invoicing in one software and lodge from inside it themselves. BO03BO08

CustomsLens

CustomsLens B.V. of Naaldwijk brings Dutch customs processes into its users’ software as an API, mainly for customs forwarders, and as an app in which declarants create declarations, review them and follow their status. Two of its three founders also founded Bespoke Automation, which built the AI for CustomsLens. CL01CL10CL22CL23CL24CL29

A person reviews every AI proposal before lodging, by CustomsLens’s account; the messages to customs go over CustomsLens’s own connection, and it describes itself as purely a software company. Prices come as a proposal only; a demo on request. CL06CL08CL09CL17CL20

Fits: Dutch customs forwarders who want customs processes inside their own software through an API. CL29

Declarium

Declarium GmbH of Munich combines, in its own words, customs software with the expert service of a customs broker: companies outsource their customs clearance, Declarium takes in the data, checks it, prepares the clearance and returns status, MRN, decisions and documents. DE03DE09DE10DE14DE21

Declarium holds AEO-C status and its own authorisations and uses its own or the customer’s depending on the setup; it covers seven countries on one platform, among them the Netherlands with DMS and Belgium with IDMS. Billing is per declaration or shipment; demo on request; data on servers in Germany. DE11DE15DE16DE17DE20DE26

Fits: Companies and forwarders who want to outsource customs clearance in several countries to a customs broker with its own software. DE09DE29

Digicust

Digicust FlexCo of Vienna describes itself as the AI layer in front of the existing customs software: documents, emails and ERP exports go in, validated declaration data goes into the system the team files in. By its own account the declarant is always the broker that files; for customers without a local entity a partner network steps in as declarant. D15D16D20D61

Beyond declarations the platform covers tariff classification, export control, audits and master data, names ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and an IEEE CertifAIed certificate from TÜV SÜD, four free tools and more than 30 countries. Digicust publishes no price. The full comparison with Athren has its own page. D2D53D54D44D32D49

Fits: Customs brokers and companies who want declaration data to flow straight into their customs software, or partners to file for them. D25D19

eZOLL app (German customs)

The eZOLL app is not a vendor product but the customs administration’s central app, run by the Generalzolldirektion. It is here because it shows up in searches for AI in customs: private persons and businesses use it to lodge the declaration for postal and courier consignments up to 150 euros themselves, gifts up to 45 euros. EZ01EZ03EZ12

Customs data can be taken over from a photo or an imported invoice, and the goods description is the basis for the AI-assisted search for the commodity code; by the privacy statement the AI is provided by traide AI GmbH. The app is not meant for a customs broker’s core work. EZ06EZ13

Fits: Recipients of postal and courier consignments up to 150 euros who lodge their own declaration. EZ03

Logentic

Logentic is a trade name of BI Solutions B.V. in Rotterdam and describes "Alex" as an AI colleague for logistics who reads emails and documents, prepares orders and customs work and updates the systems the team already uses. For customs agents Alex reads the B/L, CMR, commercial invoice and packing list, determines the HS code and sets the declaration up in the customer’s DMS. LO01LO04LO05LO18

By its own account this is no outsourcing of customs responsibility: the customer’s declarant checks, approves and lodges. Files sit in Google Cloud in the EU by its security page, with compute for the AI models partly in the United States; its customs page says instead that all processing takes place in the EU. No prices are published; a two-week trial and a demo with your own documents are offered. LO07LO23LO24LO25LO14LO16

Fits: Dutch customs agents who stay in Softpak, AEB or DTV and want the preparation handed to an agent in Dutch, with T1, MRN and Portbase. LO05LO28

traide

traide AI GmbH of Berlin calls itself the AI platform that brings customs teams into the new age: product data from Excel, ERP, CAD, images and URLs becomes tariff numbers with a justification under GRI 1 to 6, BTI references and a confidence score, plus goods descriptions, export control, CBAM and EUDR. T2T5T17T23T24T61

Three products grow with volume, from traideStarter up to 100 products a month to traideCompliance from 100 products with an ERP connection; "KI schlägt vor. Sie entscheiden. Immer." traide publishes no price. The full comparison with Athren has its own page. T9T12T41T55

Fits: Customs teams and service providers who classify article catalogues and want the numbers written back to master data. T14T29

Zolli (KikoSpace)

Zolli is the product of KikoSpace AG in Glarus and is here because it appears on German-language result pages for AI customs software; it is built for Swiss customs clearance. By its own account KikoSpace, as an official participant in the Passar trial, runs the whole process autonomously, from the goods declaration to the assessment decision, and has cleared a transit declaration under its own customs surety. ZO01ZO05ZO07ZO17

Data comes from ERP, WMS or TMS; a human release stays possible at every step. For the Austrian side KikoSpace is registered with Smart Border Austria. A free tool finds the eight-digit Swiss tariff number; no prices are published. ZO03ZO06ZO10ZO12ZO14

Fits: Swiss customs forwarders and carriers with Swiss and Austrian traffic who want one provider for both sides of the border. ZO23

Questions and answers

What is AI customs software?

Software that prepares customs work with language or vision models: reading documents, carrying values into the declaration, proposing a commodity code or classifying articles. Who lodges the declaration is decided not by the software but by the setup: your own declarant, a customs broker or a partner.

Does any of these tools lodge the declaration itself?

Three offers, by their own account, lodge or have it lodged: Declarium as a customs broker, KikoSpace through Zolli in Switzerland, Digicust through partners in direct or indirect representation. With Athren, Logentic, Borderbolt and CustomsLens the customer’s declarant lodges. DE09ZO05D19LO06BO08CL10A2

Which vendors name a Dutch customs system?

Logentic, Borderbolt and CustomsLens are built for DMS; Declarium names DMS import and export for the Netherlands. On the pages read, Digicust and traide name no Dutch system; Zolli and the eZOLL app concern Switzerland and Germany respectively. LO10BO12CL12DE16D31T48ZO09EZ09

Who publishes prices?

None of the vendors names an amount. Declarium bills per declaration or shipment, CustomsLens makes a proposal by use and volume, Digicust offers an ROI calculator; traide, Logentic and Zolli offer trials or a parallel run. The eZOLL app is free. Athren publishes no price either. DE17CL17D49T55LO14ZO15EZ10A5
